My grandmother who died at the young age of 28 without holding her daughter in her arms because of tuberculosis while giving birth to my mother in Kyoto. Before she died, she entrusted her 4-year-old daughter to her mother-in-law, Kiwa, and said that she would protect her from heaven even if she died. This book tells about the life of the daughter , who would be my mother, as a main story. In addition to that ,a rich human pattern is skillfully woven into it, including a more rigorous and difficult foster mother Riha, friends from a girls' school, Her husband Muneaki who later became the mayor of Taketa, and the kind people around her who supported living alone in old age. The reader is drawn into the story by the flowing story development. Many readers will feel as if they have finished reading a feature-length novel that reflects the social environment of Japan at that time, even though it is a family history.

(Synopsis)
Takeda City, Oita Prefecture, which was once called Oku-Bungo is located in the center of Kyushu. Located in the northwestern part of the city, there is a scenic house with a view of the Kuju mountain range to the north and Mt. Aso to the west. The story of a family of four generations who survived the difficult postwar era during the war from the Meiji era to the Showa era in this house where I (the author) was born.
My mother (Chieko) was born in Kyoto and when she was four years old her mother died at the age of 28. She moved to Kobe and lived with his stepmother (Sonoko) and his siblings, and then was adopted by and lived with his strict aunt (Rihha) at this house in Takeda. Tough lives with her aunt, fun memories with her classmates at Takeda Girls High School, and a strange fate to marry with my father (Muneaki Goto) who later became the mayor of Taketa.
My father (Muneaki) was born in Hachiyama, Takeda. He took the entrance examination of the Naval Academy, which they usually took in the 5th grade of the junior high school, and passed it in the 4th grade. Every day of rigorous training in Etajima. After the end of the war, what kind of fate made my father, who was a substitute teacher in his hometown Takeda, marry with my mother and become the mayor of Takeda?
The story tells the memories of 50 years ago that my mother, who died two years ago (2020) at the age of 90, repeatedly told me.
After my father died, while she suffered from memory problems and was supported by the kind people around her and the care structure of society, she lived alone at home until she was 90 years old.
